John Lewis.
Working with VGL, John Lewis briefs are always interesting, Dunthorne Design worked on several of their in store theatre projects, a few are highlighted below.
SKILLS: Conceptual Design | Graphic Design | Cardboard Engineering | Project Management
TWO ELEPHANTS, ONE GIRAFFE, AND A DOZEN CHEEKY MONKEYS.
Life size safari animals for their Nottingham store. The concept of stylised faceted cardboard sculptures was discussed and agreed. We collaborated with a designer in Germany to create the initial designs and then developed them further in-house to meet the clients brief. Internal Di-Bond skeletons that support the structures had to be created and tested before being released into the store. A real full service job, we had to concept, design, prototype, assemble, and package the pieces. As well as provide fitting instructions and supervision to the installer on-site. This was a deeply technical job that was extremely effective and produced stunning impact.
Unicorn & Stag.
Similar to the Nottingham safari brief, this time only a little smaller. We designed and produced a freestanding unicorn and stag for the children’s department in Reading to complement the existing wall mounted stag and unicorn heads.
Swatch book.
An oversized 6ft tall swatch book to draw attention to the John Lewis’ interior design services. The trick with this particular project was designing it in such a way that the pages could be closed so that they would be shipped flat. Once in situ the pages could be fanned out and held in position with a single hidden peg.
